Visa exemption certificate is a valid entry and exit document from Vietnam that is issued to overseas Vietnamese or foreigners who are spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens. This paper is valid as a substitute for a Vietnam visa to enter the country for the purpose of visiting relatives and dealing with private matters.

This Visa Exemption Certificate is valid for the longest period of 5 years and is shorter than the expiry date of a passport or foreign residence document for 6 months. Therefore, if your passport or green card is valid for less than 5 years, the validity of the Visa will not be full 5 years.

• If the visa exemption certificate is valid for more than 6 months:
• Per entry, visa-free holders are allowed to stay for 180 days.
• If there is a need to continue to stay in Vietnam, they will be considered for an extension of temporary residence when there is a guarantee and a good reason, each extension is valid for up to 180 days (or equal to the remaining term of the exemption certificate).
